Optimum Nutrition Platinum PRE Review

Optimum Nutrition Platinum PREOptimum Nutrition is one of the most widely known sports supplement makers. You may know them by their front-line product, Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein, which we fully reviewed a short time ago.

Now, we’re here to look at their pre workout Platinum PRE. This isn’t to be mistaken with their other pre workout Gold Standard PRE or Essential Amino Energy.

Platinum PRE Overview

Platinum PRE by Optimum Nutrition is advertised as a safe, high-quality, and clinically validated pre workout supplement. This type of marketing is the standard trend for Optimum Nutrition Products.

However, our experience and ingredient overview leads us to have our own opinion that Platinum PRE is a small-formula moderate stimulant energy supplement that is not clinically dosed. In addition, ON’s Platinum PRE also uses artificial flavors and sweeteners.

Editor’s Note: We say this for the health nuts who are expecting Platinum PRE to be a rock star just because it’s made by Optimum Nutrition. If you don’t mind a product containing artificial flavors or sucralose, overlook the statement above. As well, if you are brand spanking new to pre workouts, then take our total review with a grain of salt as we are ultra-picky with our preferences and tend to only favor the ‘best of the best supplements’.

Optimum Nutrition Platinum PRE Ingredients

Citrulline: Optimum Nutrition Platinum PRE contains 2 grams of l-citrulline per single serving. This is about a gram short of the clinical dosage needed for ‘optimal’ nitric oxide production. The L-Citrulline in PRE is sourced from Micronized L-Citrulline and Pepform Citrulline Peptides. Since the Pepform Citrulline Peptides are protein derived, the actual total citrulline content may be lower.

Beta-Alanine: Each serving of Platinum PRE contains 1.6 grams of Carnosyn Beta-Alanine. Again, this is only half of the actual clinical dosage. So, to get the full dose, you would need to take two servings of Platinum PRE. This single 1.6 dosage is enough to stimulate the tingles, however.

DMAE: There is 250 mg of the stimulant compound DMAE in Platinum PRE. DMAE is a relatively popular stimulant for bodybuilding as it provides good energy and neuron strength, especially in combination with caffeine.

Phytoblend: Platinum PRE contains a 250 mg Phytoblend of mainly beet and grape extracts. While this looks attractive, the actual benefits of such a small quantity powder are to be determined. We have a feeling that this blend is less for anti-oxidants and pump, but instead more for flavoring.

Caffeine: Each serving of Platinum PRE contains 200 mg of caffeine. The type of caffeine isn’t specified, so we assume it is caffeine anhydrous. If you were to take 2 servings of Platinum PRE in order to get clinical dosages of the Citrulline and Beta-Alanine, you would be receiving 400 mg of caffeine. Of note, is that there isn’t any L-theanine to compliment the caffeine and reduce jitters.

Capsicum Extract: There is 125 mg of the popular weight loss ingredient Capsimax Capsicum Extract per every serving of Platinum PRE. This is a reasonable addition since every serious bodybuilder is concerned with keeping a lean figure to some degree.

Platinum PRE Gym Experience Review

Optimum Nutrition’s Platinum PRE reliably delivers energy and moderate pump support. In the gym, it’s comparable to C4 with a little more pump and a bit rougher of a stimulant experience.

After taking Platinum PRE for a few weeks straight, we’ve decided that this pre workout is a pretty good supplement, however, it is easily outshined by other more ingredient-rich pre workout supplements.

Due to this, we recommend Platinum PRE to supplement minimalists and pre workout newbies alike.

Because, to you guys, a small kick in a good tasting product is plenty on its own. Why pay more when you still get what you need out of this, you know?

But, for the veterans, physique competitors, and general go-hard folks… You are going to want to consider a more well-rounded product that may cost more, but delivers greater overall value.

Conclusion on our Platinum PRE Review

This isn’t a bad product by any means. It’s a bit under-dosed and micro-formulated as a whole… But it doesn’t break any rules or contain any dangerous ingredients. For that, and its reliable moderate energy results – we are fans.

However, this pre workout is easily outshined by other more premium products. But again, if you are new to pre workouts – this one will be nothing but awesome. Likewise, a lot of you are looking for a minimalistic pre workout that’s relatively cheap… So again, this is a win.
